Job description

About

An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Agricultural Sustainability Specialist to shape the future of AgriTech in Edinburgh.

Scottish agriculture is under real pressure to cut emissions, protect soil health and prove its environmental credentials to buyers who now ask hard questions before they sign a contract. This growing AgriTech business, an established SME with a genuine foothold in the sector, builds the data tools and advisory frameworks that help farms meet those demands without losing productivity. Joining now means getting in while the company is still small enough to shape, but stable enough to offer a proper career path.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Assess client farms and estates across Scotland for carbon footprint, soil health and biodiversity impact, then translate the findings into practical plans

Work with the product team to test and refine sustainability tracking software before it reaches farmers in the field

Build and maintain relationships with growers, landowners and supply chain partners who rely on your technical advice

Produce clear reports on regulatory compliance, covering everything from nitrate vulnerable zones to emerging UK farming subsidy schemes

Support pilot projects on regenerative practices, from cover cropping to precision fertiliser application, and track the results

Represent the company at industry events and farmer workshops around Edinburgh and the wider Lothians

Here are the skills you'll need:

A degree in agriculture, environmental science, or a closely related field

Several years' hands-on experience in agricultural sustainability, farm advisory work, or environmental consultancy

Working knowledge of carbon accounting methods and UK agri-environment schemes

Comfortable with data, whether that's spreadsheets, sustainability software, or interpreting satellite and soil sensor outputs

Strong communication skills. You'll need to explain technical detail to farmers who don't want jargon, and to investors who do

A full driving licence, since site visits across the region are part of the role

Key perks and benefits:

Salary of £33,000 to £48,500, depending on experience

Bonus scheme alongside a pension contribution and private medical insurance

Hybrid working, splitting time between the Edinburgh office and the field

Generous annual leave plus flexible working arrangements

Clear progression within a company that's still building out its structure, so growth isn't capped by layers of hierarchy

Why pursue a career in AgriTech?

AgriTech is one of the few sectors where climate policy, food security and commercial pressure all point the same direction at once, and that's pulling serious investment into the field. Edinburgh has become a genuine hub for this work, with a cluster of agri-innovation firms, university research links and government backing that isn't matched elsewhere in Scotland. For someone who wants their technical skills to matter beyond a spreadsheet, few careers offer the same mix of outdoor work, data and visible impact.
