Job description
- About
An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Agricultural Technology Developer to shape the future of AgriTech in Oxford.
Farming has become a data problem as much as a growing one, and the systems behind that shift rarely get built in isolation. This role sits inside an established name in AgriTech, a large organisation with the scale to run projects that actually reach farms, not just demos. Oxford's mix of agricultural research and technology talent makes it one of the better places in the UK to do this work.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Build and maintain software that supports precision agriculture tools, from sensor data pipelines to farmer-facing applications
Work with agronomists and hardware engineers to translate field requirements into working systems
Write, test and ship code across the stack, with a focus on reliability in low-connectivity rural environments
Analyse crop and equipment data to surface insights that feed into product decisions
Maintain and improve integrations with third-party farm management platforms and IoT devices
Support the rollout of new features across live agricultural sites, including troubleshooting in the field when needed
Here are the skills you'll need:
A few years' commercial experience as a developer, ideally with some exposure to IoT, data pipelines or embedded systems
Strong proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, Java or similar), plus comfort picking up others
Understanding of how to build software that copes with unreliable connectivity and hardware constraints
An interest in agriculture or environmental science helps, though it's not a prerequisite
Good communication skills. You'll be translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders often
Comfortable working within established frameworks and processes rather than building from a blank page every time
Key perks and benefits:
£40,000 to £53,000, depending on experience
Hybrid working, based out of Oxford
Private medical and dental insurance
Enhanced pension scheme
Performance-based bonuses on top of base salary
Why pursue a career in AgriTech?
AgriTech has moved from niche to necessity. Food security, climate pressure and labour shortages are pushing agricultural businesses to invest heavily in technology, and that means real budgets and real career runway for developers who understand the domain. Oxford, with its research institutions and growing cluster of agricultural technology firms, is a strong base for anyone wanting to build a long-term career here rather than chase the next short contract.
