Job description

About

Join a growing AgriTech company as an AgriTech Software Engineer in Nottingham.

Food production is under pressure. Yields need to go up, resources need to stretch further, and the farms that will manage it are the ones investing in software, not just machinery. This SME builds technology that helps agricultural businesses make better decisions with their data, and it's grown steadily by staying focused on that one problem. Now it needs an AgriTech Software Engineer to help build the next stage of that platform.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Building and maintaining software features that process and visualise agricultural data, from sensor feeds to yield reports

Writing clean, tested code across the stack, working closely with product and data teams to ship features that farmers and agronomists actually use

Integrating with third-party APIs and hardware data sources, including IoT sensors and satellite imagery feeds

Diagnosing and fixing bugs in production systems, some of which run in genuinely remote, low-connectivity environments

Contributing to technical decisions on architecture and tooling as the platform scales

Reviewing code from junior colleagues and helping raise the bar across the team

Here are the skills you'll need:

A few years of commercial software development experience, ideally with a modern backend language and framework

Comfort working with APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure both fine)

An interest in agriculture or environmental science helps, though it's not a dealbreaker if you're curious and willing to learn the domain fast

Good communication skills. You'll be working with non-technical stakeholders who know farming inside out but not code

The ability to work independently on a feature from spec through to deployment

Some exposure to data-heavy systems (IoT, time-series data, or geospatial data) is a strong plus

Key perks and benefits:

£34,000 to £52,500, depending on experience

Bonus scheme on top of base salary

Private medical insurance and pension contribution

Hybrid working, with flexibility around how your week is split between home and the Nottingham office

Structured career development within a company that's still growing into new markets

Why pursue a career in AgriTech?

AgriTech is one of the few sectors where software genuinely changes outcomes on the ground, not just spreadsheets. Nottingham has quietly built up a strong cluster of agricultural technology and life sciences businesses, backed by nearby universities and research farms, which makes it a sensible base for anyone wanting to build a long career here. Good engineers in this space tend to move fast into senior and lead roles, because the industry is still short of people who understand both the code and the crop.
