Job description
- About
A kind, empathetic and patient Personal Assistant is required to support an intelligent 16-year-old boy who lives in the Helston area.
He has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), meaning that his health, energy levels and abilities can vary from day to day. As a result, he may require different levels of support depending on how he is feeling.
He has a keen interest in computers and science and hopes to pursue a career as a radiographer in the future. He is naturally curious, enjoys learning new things, and is interested in a wide range of topics.
The role involves supporting him to access community-based activities, build his independence and confidence, and pursue his individual interests and hobbies.
Other goals include supporting him to develop life skills, such as shopping independently, using public transport, and participating more fully in community life.
This is a rewarding opportunity to help a young person develop new skills, grow in confidence, and gain greater independence while making a positive impact on his life.
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour (employed) or £16.50 (self-employed). A travel allowance of 55p per mile is provided for any journeys made while transporting him in your own vehicle.
Hours: 6 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to suit the successful candidate's availability. Weekend and school holiday availability will be required.
Experience working with young people with health needs is highly advantageous. A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle are highly desirable.
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, the administration process will be undertaken by Cornwall Council.
If you would like to apply for this role, please send your CV. Alternatively, you can request an application form.
Your CV or application form will be passed on to the family for their consideration. Due to the high number of applicants that are received for various roles, it is not possible to inform applicants if they have been unsuccessful.
Please apply by emailing a copy of your CV and quoting the reference code AADP/2039 to: cypdirectpayments@cornwall.gov.uk
