You'll play a key role in keeping the operation running safely, efficiently and compliantly, while improving processes, supporting your team and delivering excellent customer service.
What you'll be doing
• Managing the day-to-day transport operation, including vehicle allocation, routing and resource planning.
• Leading, supporting and developing a team of HGV drivers, promoting engagement, accountability and high standards.
• Overseeing fleet maintenance, servicing, inspections, repairs and breakdowns.
• Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, drivers' hours, tachographs and vehicle defect reporting.
• Monitoring vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption and transport costs, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Managing driver performance, attendance, inductions and training.
• Working closely with site teams, customers, suppliers and third-party transport providers to ensure a reliable service.
• Improving processes and workflows, encouraging the team to embrace positive change.
• Monitoring compliance records, investigating incidents and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Providing clear updates on transport performance, costs and compliance to senior management.
What we're looking for
• Proven experience managing a transport operation and HGV drivers.
• A Transport Manager CPC and a strong understanding of Operator Licence compliance and transport legislation.
• Knowledge of drivers' hours, tachographs, vehicle inspections and defect management.
• Experience coordinating fleet maintenance and managing vehicle availability.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to bring drivers and colleagues along with you.
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, alongside commercial awareness.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement and customer service.
• Experience within waste, recycling, metals, logistics or a similar operational environment would be advantageous.
