Set within the stunning natural landscape of Derbyshire, the campus also offers an inspiring backdrop for study and personal growth. At Buxton, students are encouraged to explore, innovate, and thrive, making it an exceptional place to learn and build a successful future.
University of Derby Buxton is rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED in all inspection areas, including teaching, learning & assessment, outcomes for learners, personal development, behaviour & welfare; and has a team of dedicated staff who take pride in supporting learners towards their study and career goals. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team on our journey to becoming an outstanding provider.
About the team
The Catering and Hospitality curriculum at Buxton is designed to be learner-focused, offering a wide array of courses that cater to diverse learner needs. Students benefit from hands-on experience in state-of-the-art kitchens and a commercial bistro, both equipped to mirror the modern hospitality industry. At the heart of our offering are City & Guilds-accredited NVQ/VRQ Levels 1, 2, and 3 qualifications in Food Preparation and Cooking and Food and Beverage Service, which are highly regarded within the hospitality sector.
About the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to deliver exceptional teaching, learning and assessment across Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications in Catering and Hospitality, with a particular focus on food and beverage service. You will deliver engaging and high-quality learning across Levels 1, 2 and 3 study programmes, as well as the Level 2 Apprenticeship, helping learners develop the practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours needed to succeed within the hospitality industry.
You will play a key role in planning and delivering practical, technical, vocational and theoretical learning, using a range of teaching and assessment methods to meet individual learning needs and support learner progress. Working closely with apprentices, employers and colleagues, you will provide effective mentoring, coaching and assessment, monitor achievement and ensure learners are fully prepared for external qualifications and end-point assessments.
Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and achievement, provide constructive feedback and ensure employers and relevant stakeholders are kept informed. You will also contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance and the wider work of the University, helping to build strong relationships with employers and external partners to support apprenticeship recruitment, engagement and progression.
You will promote high standards of professional conduct, equality, health and safety and safeguarding, creating a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment where learners are encouraged to achieve their full potential.
About You
You will be a knowledgeable and experienced Catering and Hospitality professional with significant industry experience, particularly in Food and Beverage and Front of House operations. You will have the skills and expertise to support learners in developing the practical, technical and employability skills required to succeed within the hospitality industry.
You will hold a relevant Level 3 or above Catering and Hospitality qualification, a Food Safety qualification and a Level 5 teaching qualification, or be working towards one. You will also have Level 2 qualifications in English and maths, or a willingness to achieve these within an agreed timescale.
With experience of delivering teaching, training or development programmes to post-16 learners, apprentices or employees, you will be able to plan and deliver effective, engaging and inclusive learning experiences that meet industry standards and support learners to achieve their full potential. You will have a strong understanding of current Food and Beverage and Front of House practices, relevant vocational qualifications and apprenticeship standards, with the ability to demonstrate practical skills and provide effective coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.
You will have well-developed communication, interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with learners, colleagues, employers and industry partners. You will be able to work independently and as part of a team, manage competing priorities and contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement, including leading a team where required.
You will demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive teaching, widening participation and supporting learner progression. You will also be committed to your own continuing professional development and to the University of Derby Buxton's values and behaviours. You must be willing to travel and work flexibly across University and external locations as required.
The role is subject to the appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list information and a Prohibited from Teaching check.
