Job description

About

Are you able to support students to develop their English skills in small groups or with 1 to 1 support ?

As our Lecturer you will support 16–19-year-old students needing to improve their English GCSE grade. For many, it's a second or third attempt, and confidence can be low. We're looking for a skilled, patient, and encouraging Lecturer to help them turn that around.

You'll deliver English in small groups/ one-to-one sessions, working closely with the other English Lecturers to help students' close skills gaps and improve their exam technique. You'll also help rebuild belief in their own ability, which is often just as important as the content itself. All planning, resources, and tracking documents will be provided.

As our Lecturer in English, you will:

- Deliver exciting and challenging lessons to a wide range of learners undertaking a re-sit of the GCSE curriculum.

- Work collaboratively with other lecturers and managers to design a scheme of work which stretches and challenges learners while underpinning recall techniques to provide the best possible outcomes for all learners.

- Monitor learner progress and provide both formative and summative feedback throughout the year. Ensure that student needs are met in a responsive way, in line with the concept of inclusive learning.

What we can offer you in this role:

• Rewarding teaching and learning.

• Supportive environment to design lessons that fit the needs of all learners.

• An environment that fosters personal growth and collaboration, to change lives through learning.

• We actively encourage applications from those seeking part-time roles, job shares, or other flexible working arrangements. Whether you're balancing caring responsibilities, pursuing personal goals, or simply seeking a healthier rhythm between life and work, we’re here to support you.

What you will bring to the role:

- Experience of working as a teaching assistant or teacher or in a role supporting young people.

- The ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt your approach to different learners.

- Patience, empathy and resilience.

- Proven organisational and communication skills.

Our Staff Benefits - see attached job pack for further information.

- Teachers’ Pension Scheme, with the Group contributing 28.68% of your actual pensionable pay.

- 40 days annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays and college closure days over the Christmas period which are not deducted from annual leave entitlement.

- Access to a range of discount schemes including shopping, restaurants, gym, travel, cinema and onsite facilities.

- Employee Assistance Programme.

- Enhanced family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

- Continuous professional development opportunities.

Looking to get into teaching?

- We are always looking for people from industry to share their knowledge and expertise.

- We offer a fully funded Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship, plus other alternative options.

This is a fixed term role until 30 July 2027.
