Job description
- About
SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary & Secondary | Tamworth
Are you empathetic, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to thrive? We are seeking a dedicated and proactive
SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist provision in
Tamworth. This provision caters to both primary and secondary aged pupils who face challenges related to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
In this long-term role, you will work closely with pupils both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them regulate their emotions, build confidence, and actively engage in their learning. If you are ready to make a genuine impact on a young person's educational journey, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support across primary or secondary age groups.
- Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.
- Build trusting, non-judgemental relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviours or withdrawal.
- Assist class teachers in creating an inclusive, calm, and structured classroom environment.
- Support pupils during unstructured times, such as breaks and transitions between classes.
- Monitor pupil progress, wellbeing, and engagement, providing clear feedback to the SENCo and teaching staff.
Qualifications
- A solid understanding of SEMH needs and how they impact a child's learning and behaviour.
- Previous experience supporting SEMH, PRU, or SEND settings is desirable, but not essential-the right attitude, empathy, and patience matter most.
- Strong communication and de-escalation skills, with the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
- Experience or background in youth work, sports coaching, care, or mainstream school support is highly welcome.
- A proactive, positive mindset and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
What We Offer
Competitive Pay: £92.56 - £95.00 per day.
Stable Schedule: Full-time, long-term placement, Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (term-time only).
Growth: Potential for the role to lead to a permanent contract.
Support: Supportive leadership team with access to ongoing professional development and training.
