Be the Difference When It Matters Most
At
Discovery, we're looking for dedicated and adaptable colleagues to join our team as
Waking Night Floating Support Workers across South Somerset.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, thrives on responsibility and wants to make a genuine difference to people's lives. As a Peripatetic Support Worker, you'll provide high-quality support across a number of our supported living services, helping to ensure continuity of care and positive outcomes for the people we support.
While you'll work in a different service from night to night depending on operational needs, you'll typically spend each shift within a single home, allowing you to provide consistent, person-centred support throughout the night.
About the Role
As a
Waking Night Floating Support Worker, you'll support people with learning disabilities and a range of support needs throughout the night, promoting their safety, wellbeing and independence.
This is a specialist role requiring exceptional flexibility, resilience and adaptability. No two nights are the same. One night you may be supporting a home where people require higher levels of support, whilst the next you could be working with individuals who live relatively independently and simply need reassurance and occasional support during the night.
Working predominantly as a lone worker, you'll need to be confident making decisions, using your initiative and responding appropriately to situations as they arise while maintaining a calm, professional approach.
As travel is a fundamental part of this role, you must be able and willing to work across services throughout South Somerset as required.
The People You'll Support
One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is the opportunity to support a wide range of people, each with their own goals, preferences and support needs.
You may support people who:
- Have learning disabilities and complex support needs
- Require emotional reassurance and encouragement throughout the night
- Experience periods of anxiety or behaviours of distress
- Need support with personal care and maintaining their dignity
- Have mobility needs requiring support in line with training and guidance
- Require assistance with medication administration
- Use different methods of communication, including non-verbal communication and alternative communication methods
Your ability to adapt your approach, build positive relationships and provide person-centred support will be key to your success.
What You'll Be Doing
Support activities may include:
- Providing emotional support, reassurance and guidance throughout the night
- Completing regular welfare and wellbeing checks
- Supporting individuals with personal care where required
- Assisting with mobility and moving and assisting tasks
- Supporting with medication administration
- Promoting choice, dignity, independence and wellbeing
- Responding appropriately to situations that may arise during the night
Alongside direct support, you'll also help maintain a safe and welcoming environment by:
- Completing accurate electronic records and documentation
- Updating support notes and incident reports where required
- Undertaking cleaning and domestic tasks
- Preparing the home for the day ahead
- Following health and safety, medication and organisational procedures
What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are:
Essential:
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have access to their own vehicle
- Able to travel across South Somerset to support different services
- Comfortable working waking night shifts
- Confident working independently and making informed decisions
- Flexible, adaptable and reliable
Desirable:
- Previous experience within social care or support work
- Experience supporting people with complex needs
- Experience as a lone worker
- Knowledge of person-centred support approaches
Most importantly, you'll be someone who shares our values and is passionate about helping people live fulfilling lives.
