Job description

About
The Cellular Pathology service is a rapidly expanding part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Network, which is based on the hospital sites at Coventry (University Hospital), Nuneaton (George Eliot Hospital) and Warwick (South Warwickshire Hospital). It offers a comprehensive range of Pathology services to a population of approximately 1 million Coventry and Warwickshire residents and has a close relationship with the Medical school at Warwick University. The network offers an excellent opportunity to those seeking employment in a modern, innovative and high-profile organisation. We have digital slide scanning on both sites and we scan 100% of slides at UHCW including screening cases. Our Histology department is in the middle of a major procurement and expect to have new main lab and IHC equipment in by the end of this year to help us deliver our turnaround times- this is an exciting time for us in histology- a chance for us to redesign our workflows and processes, and you could be a part of that! Organise the slides to be tested making sure they are correctly labelled and the specific antibody has been assigned to the slide. Responsible for the loading/unloading of machines and starting staining runs. Prepare reagents and kits, retrieve the appropriate antibodies and produce the corresponding labels to be used in the staining process, in accordance to the daily worksheet. Check the quantity of the antibodies in regards to adequate volume needed for the staining process, alerting the BMS's when volumes are running low and need to be made up. Update the laboratory computer database when cases have been stained or require work to be repeated. Cut/embed control material to be used in the staining process. Ensure there is a supply of relevant control material, notifying the BMS when stocks are low. For further details of the role please see the attached job description.
