This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and ambitious Ophthalmology team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Ophthalmologist with expertise in medical and surgical paediatric ophthalmology and ocular motility. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and sustaining our paediatric and ocular motility services for children and adults, while contributing to the wider work of a well-established ophthalmology department.

Applicants with an additional subspecialty interest are also encouraged to apply.

You will join a large multidisciplinary service working across Calderdale Royal Hospital and Acre Mill Outpatients in Huddersfield.

The department offers a wide range of general and specialist ophthalmology services, supported by consultant colleagues, specialty doctors, trainees, advanced clinical practitioners, nurse practitioners, orthoptists, optometrists, specialist nurses, technicians, healthcare assistants and a dedicated administrative failsafe team.

As a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Motility, you will provide specialist clinical care for children and adults across outpatient, diagnostic and surgical pathways. You will lead paediatric and ocular motility services, contribute to theatre activity and clinical decision-making, and work collaboratively within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will also play an active role in teaching and mentorship, supporting junior doctors, ACPs, nursing staff, orthoptists and optometrists, while contributing to service development, quality improvement, research and clinical governance.

There will be opportunities to shape innovative models of care and help drive the future development of ophthalmology services across Calderdale and Huddersfield.

At Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), you will join a supportive team of 18 consultant colleagues and a highly skilled multidisciplinary workforce committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care and continuous improvement.

As a digitally advanced ophthalmology service in the NHS, we utilise Cerner Millennium EPR, MediSight and an electornic digital referral platform to support efficient, paper-light patient pathways and enhance both the patient and clinician.

Our strong culture, community partnerships and commitment to transfomration make CHFT an excellent place for consultants who want to develop their career while influencing the future direction of ophthalmology services.
