The business
Our client is a well-established retailer specialising in household appliances, offering customers a range of quality products at competitive prices.
With a focus on delivering excellent customer service, maximising sales and building strong relationships with both retail and trade customers, the business is looking for a commercially minded Retail Manager to lead its South Tyneside operation.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven individual to take ownership of store performance, develop a motivated team and increase the store's profile within the local community.
The Role
As Retail Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running and commercial performance of the store. You will be expected to lead from the front, combining strong sales management and customer service with a hands-on approach to the practical demands of the operation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Driving sales performance, ensuring targets, KPIs and profit margins are achieved.
- Managing and developing the team, providing guidance, motivation and support to help individuals reach their full potential.
- Delivering an excellent customer experience to both retail and trade customers.
- Identifying opportunities to attract new customers, grow the customer base and increase revenue.
- Raising the store's profile within the local area through promotions, advertising and local marketing initiatives.
- Managing staff rotas to ensure appropriate cover across the six-day operation.
- Overseeing incoming deliveries, stock handling and the accurate management of inventory.
- Maintaining competitive pricing and ensuring stock records are accurate.
- Monitoring sales performance and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
- Ensuring sales orders and administrative processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Maintaining high standards of store presentation, organisation and customer service.
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed and the store operates safely.
- Supporting the physical handling, lifting and movement of heavy household appliances as part of the day-to-day operation.
This is a hands-on management role, so you will need to be comfortable working alongside your team, getting involved in the physical side of the business and setting the standard through your own approach and attitude.
The Person
We are looking for a proactive, commercially aware individual who enjoys working in a sales-driven environment and has the confidence to lead, motivate and develop a team.
To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:
- Previous experience in retail management, sales management or a similar customer-facing leadership role.
- A proven ability to drive sales, achieve targets and improve business performance.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate a team and encourage high standards.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with a genuine passion for delivering a positive customer experience.
- A keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills.
- The confidence to develop local business opportunities and raise awareness of the store within the community.
- Experience managing staff rotas, prioritising workloads and coordinating day-to-day operations.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel; experience using stock management or sales systems would be advantageous.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to take ownership and make decisions.
- A practical, hands-on attitude and the physical fitness required for regular heavy lifting and moving appliances.
- Flexibility to work five days out of six, including Saturdays, and to accommodate an early start on delivery days.
Experience within appliance retail, consumer goods or a similar sales-led environment would be advantageous. Above all, we want someone who can combine commercial drive with a people-focused approach and a genuine desire to make the store a success.
