About Nottingham Playhouse

Awarded Theatre of the Year 2025 at The Stage Awards, Nottingham Playhouse is one of the country’s leading producing theatres. We create bold, thrilling and proudly Nottingham-made theatre, from timeless classics and innovative family shows to adventurous new commissions.

Our theatre is a place where everyone belongs. Alongside our productions, we deliver a wide range of participation programmes that create life-changing experiences for our local community.

About the role

We are looking for reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Seasonal Cleaners to join our team during our busy 2026/27 pantomime season.

As a Seasonal Cleaner, you will help ensure that Nottingham Playhouse remains clean, safe and welcoming for our audiences, visitors and staff. Working under the direction of the Cleaning Supervisor, you will carry out daily and periodic cleaning across public areas, offices and washroom facilities.

The role will also involve scheduled cleaning callbacks between pantomime performances, helping us maintain excellent standards throughout this busy period.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities

- Clean public spaces, offices and washroom facilities to the required standards.

- Carry out cleaning duties in line with agreed schedules, including vacuuming, washing floors, cleaning carpets and seating, cleaning toilets and showers, and emptying bins.

- Undertake scheduled cleaning callbacks between pantomime performances as directed by the Cleaning Supervisor.

- Follow all health and safety procedures, including COSHH, manual handling, working at height and electrical safety requirements.

- Use cleaning products, equipment and supplies safely and in accordance with instructions.

- Maintain clean, organised cleaning cupboards and equipment, reporting any defects or replenishment needs promptly.

- Identify and report maintenance issues to the Cleaning Supervisor.

- Support Nottingham Playhouse’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and environmental sustainability.

About you

We are looking for someone who is punctual, reliable and trustworthy, with a positive attitude and a practical approach to their work.

You will be able to manage your time effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate clearly with colleagues. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, have an awareness of health and safety procedures, and be able to measure cleaning chemicals accurately.

The role requires a reasonable level of fitness to undertake the duties involved, as well as availability for early morning shifts, scheduled pantomime callbacks and weekend work. Evening and Bank Holiday shifts may also be required.

You do not need to demonstrate every skill listed above, provided you can show your potential to learn with the appropriate training and support.

Working at Nottingham Playhouse

We want our staff to feel welcome, supported and valued. Benefits of working at Nottingham Playhouse include:

- Free and discounted tickets for performances, including press nights.

- Free Playhouse Pass membership.

- Discounts on our bars offer.

- Staff social events.

- Training and professional development opportunities.

Pay: £12.71 per hour, paid weekly. A contributory workplace pension scheme is provided through NOW: Pensions, subject to scheme terms.

Diversity, inclusion and access

Nottingham Playhouse is committed to equality of opportunity and building a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we work with. We actively encourage applications from people from the Global Ethnic Majority and disabled people.

Applicants who declare as being from the Global Ethnic Majority and/or as disabled in their application will be guaranteed an interview if they meet the minimum criteria in the person specification.

We are a Disability Confident employer and welcome conversations about reasonable adjustments to make the recruitment process accessible. We also welcome applications from people with caring responsibilities and those seeking a positive work/life balance.

If you require the recruitment pack in an alternative format, support with your application or an alternative way to apply, please contact recruitment@nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk or call our Stage Door on 0115 947 4361.

How to apply

Please complete our online application form by Sunday 8 November 2026 at 11.59pm. Applications must be completed in full; a CV alone will not be accepted.

In your application, please explain how your experience, skills and personal qualities meet the requirements of the role, giving examples wherever possible.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming successful applicants to Nottingham Playhouse for our pantomime season.
