Cadent Gas Ltd
Keep the gas network flowing safely through industry-leading control systems
As our Control Engineer, you'll play a vital role in supporting the technology, telemetry and control room systems that enable the safe and efficient operation of Cadent's gas network.
Working within the Emergency Control Centre (ECC), you'll help maintain and develop the systems that provide operators with real time visibility and control of the network. From progressing changes to SCADA and telemetry systems, through to maintaining system configuration, data integrity and operational processes, you'll ensure our critical infrastructure remains reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
You'll collaborate closely with Control Room teams, Energy Operations, Information Systems and National Gas to support the delivery of system improvements, manage change effectively and provide expert technical knowledge that helps shape the future of ECC systems and telemetry strategy.
Through sound engineering judgement and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, you'll help ensure our control systems continue to support safe network operations for millions of customers.
Why you'll love this role
Critical Impact – Support the systems that enable the safe and efficient control of one of the UK's largest gas distribution networks.
Technical Challenge – Work with SCADA, telemetry and operational technology systems that sit at the heart of network operations.
Shape the Future – Contribute expert knowledge and insight into future ECC, telemetry and control room strategies.
Continuous Improvement – Support system enhancements, process development and operational improvements that make a real difference.
Collaborative Environment – Partner with stakeholders across National Gas, Energy Operations, Information Systems and the ECC Control Room teams.
Develop Your Expertise – Build specialist knowledge in critical national infrastructure, operational technology and network control systems.
What you'll bring
- GCSEs Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in STEM-related subjects.
- Qualifications beyond GCSE level in STEM, Engineering, IT, Computer Science or a related discipline are desirable.
- Strong customer focus and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience supporting or working within change management environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and disciplines.
- A collaborative approach and proven ability to work as part of a high-performing team.
- An appreciation of control room environments, operational technology systems and the need for rapid fault response.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex technical issues and their wider operational impacts.
- The ability to apply sound engineering judgement based on evidence, experience and risk.
- Knowledge of Safe Control of Operations (SCO) principles would be advantageous.
If you'd like to play a key role in maintaining and evolving the systems that keep our network operating safely and efficiently, we'd love to hear from you.
