Mess Accountant – 12-Month Maternity Cover

£13.11 per hour

Fixed-term contract: 12 months to cover maternity leave

Location: WO & Sgts Mess, Swinton Barracks, Perham Down, Andover, SP11 9LQ

Hours per week: 25 hours per week

Shift pattern: Any 5 days out of 7

Mess Accountant on a 12-month maternity cover contract at

WO & Sgts Mess, Swinton Barracks. Supporting our military catering operation, you’ll play an important part in keeping food accounts accurate, stock records up to date and financial information ready for reconciliation and audit.

Working closely with the Catering Manager and wider team, this is a great opportunity to use your numerical and IT skills in a varied role where your attention to detail makes a difference every day.

What you’ll do

• Check delivery notes and invoices, accurately recording information on the food accounting system.
• Process debits, credits and internal and external stock transfers.
• Maintain food income and expenditure accounts in line with company procedures.
• Complete weekly reconciliations, checking invoices against statements and balancing account records.
• Prepare accounts for period-end closure and reconciliation statements for review and sign-off.
• Keep financial documents organised and securely stored in line with company requirements.
• Support the receipt, storage, issuing and delivery of food supplies, following relevant legislation and company procedures.
• Work with the wider team to maintain accurate records, support cost control and prepare for audits.

What you’ll bring

• Good numerical skills and a careful, accurate approach to your work.
• Confidence using IT systems and maintaining computerised records.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work well as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn and complete training relevant to the role.

Previous experience in accounts would be an advantage, as would familiarity with military

Pay As You Dine operations, but neither is essential.
