Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available
Are you a registered healthcare professional looking for predictable weekday working while continuing to use your clinical expertise?
We are recruiting healthcare professionals to work as Functional Assessors in Bournemouth, completing functional health assessments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services.
This role is also known as a Disability Assessor or Clinical Assessor. You will complete structured assessments, review medical evidence and produce clear, evidence-based reports for the Department for Work and Pensions. This is an assessment and report-writing role rather than a hands-on treatment position.
The role
For PIP assessments, you will explore how a health condition or disability affects daily living and mobility. For WCA assessments, you will consider how a person's health affects functional capability for work or work-related activity.
Assessments may take place by telephone, online video appointment or face-to-face at the local assessment centre. You will review medical evidence, gather accurate information through structured questioning, apply your clinical knowledge and professional judgement, and produce clear, concise and evidence-based reports.
An honest picture of the role
This is a report-writing role as much as an assessment role. You will spend a significant part of the working day gathering detailed information, using IT systems and producing structured written reports.
You will not provide hands-on treatment, prescribe or deliver treatment, make medical diagnoses, provide medical advice or make the final decision on benefit entitlement.
Working pattern
This is a permanent hybrid role based between home and the Bournemouth assessment centre.
The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with no nights, weekends or rotating shifts. Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available. The vacancy is not fully remote.
Training
You will complete a comprehensive, full-time training programme before undertaking assessments independently.
Part-time applicants must be available for the initial full-time training period before moving to their agreed part-time hours.
