The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and experienced

Project Engineer to support a major nuclear new-build project within its Critical Technical Programmes team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes, supporting the delivery of a new generation of nuclear power stations and the UK's transition towards reliable, low-carbon energy.

The role will play an important part in supporting the project's regulatory and licensing commitments, specifically through the development and delivery of a Post-RC2 Stress Report Strategy.

This work is essential to demonstrating the structural integrity and mechanical adequacy of the plant design, ensuring that engineering documentation reflects the evolving as-built plant and associated loading conditions.

Working closely with the Stress Reports Task Force Lead, you will coordinate activities across multiple engineering disciplines, stakeholders and supply chain partners to ensure the effective delivery of agreed workstreams.

In addition to supporting the technical programme, you will provide operational quality management (QML) support, helping to ensure that quality requirements are consistently understood, implemented and maintained across the supply chain and wider project functions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Engineering & Workstream Coordination

  • Lead one or more defined workstreams, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to achieve agreed objectives and deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Stress Reports Task Force Lead to support the development and implementation of the Post-RC2 Stress Report Strategy.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement, ensuring actions, deliverables and dependencies are clearly understood and progressed.
  • Monitor programme progress, identify potential risks, issues and blockers, and proactively support their resolution.
  • Maintain project trackers, action logs, Gantt charts and reporting documentation.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, presentations and progress updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collate, analyse and manage information from multiple engineering teams to support informed decision-making.
  • Support the review and ongoing management of Stress Report documentation to ensure alignment with evolving plant design, configuration and loading conditions.

Quality Management & Supply Chain Support

  • Provide QML operational support for quality-related activities associated with the supply chain.
  • Work collaboratively with project functions, engineering teams and suppliers to ensure compliance with applicable project quality arrangements.
  • Support the effective implementation and monitoring of quality requirements throughout the supply chain.
  • Assist with the identification, tracking and resolution of quality issues, ensuring appropriate actions are assigned and progressed.
  • Promote a proactive quality culture, supporting safe, efficient and right-first-time delivery.
  • Ensure quality-related activities and deliverables are appropriately coordinated, monitored and reported.

Stakeholder Management & Team Collaboration

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across engineering, project management, quality and supply chain functions.
  • Act as a key point of coordination between multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate contextual leadership, quickly developing an understanding of complex technical topics and translating these into clear actions and deliverables.
  • Challenge existing approaches constructively and identify opportunities to improve processes and resolve longstanding issues.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the programme develops and priorities evolve.

About You

We are looking for an individual who combines strong organisational and communication skills with a proactive, pragmatic and analytical approach.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex engineering environment, managing multiple priorities and engaging with stakeholders at different levels.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • An engineering, scientific or equivalent technical background.
  • Experience working within the nuclear industry, ideally on a major nuclear new-build programme, or within another highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating complex technical workstreams.
  • An understanding of structural integrity, engineering substantiation or stress analysis documentation would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in project engineering, project coordination or project management.
  • Experience with configuration management and document control processes.
  • Exposure to quality management systems, supply chain quality assurance or operational quality support.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted working relationships.
  • Effective contextual leadership skills, with the ability to quickly understand new and complex topics without becoming lost in the technical detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and continually evolving project environment.
  • A pragmatic and collaborative approach, with strong listening skills and the ability to bring together different perspectives to develop effective solutions.
  • A questioning and critical-thinking mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing approaches and identify opportunities for improvement.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile nuclear infrastructure programme, working alongside experienced engineering and project professionals.

You will have the opportunity to influence the delivery of a strategically important technical programme, develop relationships across multiple project functions and take on increasing levels of responsibility as the programme progresses.
