Recruitment and Onboarding Officer
Reports to: Employee Experience Business Partner
Salary: £35,787.42
Hours: Full-time, 35
Contract: Permanent
Interviews: w/c 9th November 2026
Purpose of the Role
We recognise that people are our most valuable resource. The Recruitment and Onboarding Officer plays a key role in delivering an excellent candidate and new starter experience at United Welsh.
Our continued long-term success is dependent on the talent and skills of the people we employ. How we attract, retain and support them, keep them motivated and engaged and provide them opportunities to develop within the organisation is essential to the business.
Working closely with hiring managers, candidates and colleagues across the organisation, as Recruitment and Onboarding Officer you will coordinate the recruitment and onboarding experience from vacancy approval through to completion of probation.
A significant focus of the role is creating a positive onboarding experience, supporting managers and new starters during the period between offer and start date, owning inductions, monitoring probation activity and making sure all employment records are accurate and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate recruitment from vacancy approval to appointment and own onboarding from offer through to completion of probation.
- Support managers with job descriptions, adverts and assessment methods, and coordinate vacancy advertising, shortlisting, interviews and recruitment events.
- Support candidates and new starters confidently by phone, email and in person, keeping in contact before joining and during their early weeks.
- Manage offers, contracts and pre-employment checks, including right to work, making sure documentation is accurate and requirements are completed before joining.
- Work with hiring managers to put practical onboarding arrangements in place, making sure new starters have the information, resources and support they need before joining and a clear induction plan for their first weeks.
- Deliver welcoming, informative team-level inductions and facilitate the company-wide induction programme, coordinating contributors, sessions and attendance so that new starters understand the organisation and know where to find support.
- Track induction and probation milestones, follow up outstanding reviews and documentation, and escalate concerns to the relevant HR Business Partner. Managers still have responsibility for probation decisions.
- Keep HRIS, ATS and associated records accurate, current and confidential; provide first-line troubleshooting and escalate complex system issues.
- Maintain recruitment and onboarding process flows, compliance records, guidance and templates, using routine reporting to highlight delays and outstanding actions.
- Use feedback and system insights to put practical improvements in place that reduce duplication, simplify administration and strengthen the candidate and new starter experience.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, fast-paced coordination activity from start to finish
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to managers, candidates or colleagues.
- Experience maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information.

- Highly competent in Microsoft Office applications and digital systems.
- An understanding of right to work requirements and recruitment compliance processes.
